Thirty-nine competitors participated in the July IWLA IPSC match, a good showing as
the Area match was ongoing at the same time. A shotgun side match topped off a solid 5
stage match as nearly a third of the pistol competitors shot the side match.
Stage one, Crossover, was a low port speed shoot. Two IPSC targets and a popper were
engaged from each side of widely spaced barrels. Terry Zortman won open with the only 6
second run and Gary Bertolet won limited with a 7 second run.
Stage two, Corner Pocket, was a wide open field course. Two hidden arrays of targets
on each side of the range, with four run and gun targets in between. This 100 point stage
was nearly shot as fast as the previous speed shoot, with Terry Zortman on top of open
with a 10.8 hit factor and Gary Bertolet atop limited with a 9.4 hit factor.
Shut Out, our third stage, was a 4 box field course, mixing paper and steel targets.
Transitions in and out of boxes were key to quick times on this 80 point
stage. Terry Zortman had the high open run, edging the next competitor by a tenth of a hit
factor. Gary Bertolet was high limited on
Shut Out by a 10% factor.
Our July house stage, Front Door Encounter was a 12 round
house stage, with a door activated swinger. The mover set the stage for
confusion, as the awkwardly place targets averted smooth runs. Greg Gruendler won open on
Front Door Encounter with a 12.3 second run. Jim Kurtz was high limited with a
blazing 11 second run.
Julys classifier, Times Two was a two box, 12 round field course. Two reciprocal
arrays were engaged from the boxes separated by 16 feet. Pete Barrett was the top open
shooter with an 8.2 hit factor. Mike Milan was the high limited shooter with a 7.1 hit
factor.
Julys match winners were Terry Zortman - High Over All, by 47 match points and Gary
Bertolet - High Limited, by 13 match points. Other winners were 1A - Pete Barrett, 1B -
Freddie Baker, 1C - Kevin Solito, 1U - Hilda Solito, 1AL - Art McGinnis, 21BL - Pete
Wilber, 1CL - Dan Blevins, 1DL - Mike Hockensmith, 1UL - Mike Wilsynski. Congratulations
to all match and class winners.
Our shotgun side match was a run and hoze,15 round stage - A Walk In The Park. Three
arrays of steel targets were shot from boxes set along our new shooting park range.
Although rumors were heard of super human 15 seconds runs, Fred Fullers 18 second run was
on top of open shooters, while Mike Milan's 32 second run was atop limited shooters. Lewis
winners were Rich Banks, first lewis , and Mike Hockensmith, second lewis. This stage
should serve as a warm-up for Augusts 3 Gun Match.
The August Three Gun Match will be held on Saturday, August 14th, with a 10:00 squad time.
50 rounds of pistol and rifle ammo, a box of shot, and a dozen slugs should get you
through the match.
Open and Standard classes will be recognized, with Arts Standard criteria in effect
( if youre unsure, take it off). Call Greg at 717-428-2564 for slots for the match.
Thanks for the set-up, tear-down help given by many competitors, your help is greatly
