Alpha Charlie Byline   August 1999

The IWLA 3 Gun Match has evolved into one of the best multi gun matches in the country. While many 3 Gun Matches have dwindled and disappeared, the IWLA Match has grown in quality of match and attendance. The strength of the match has brought us a lot of rewards, along with a few disappointments.

Stage one, Rosa Ripoff, was a 16 round pistol stage with its share of movement - competitor and target.   Four poppers each activated a mover which remained partially visible if not shot on the move.   A couple of stationary targets gave shooters a chance to manage the movers.   Rob Kamenski was high oen with a sub 9 second run, while dam Benson topped standard with a 12 second run.

Stage two, The House, had similar results as the second pistol stage.  12 paper targets were placed in arrays of 4,and were shot though ports within the house.    Rob and Adam swept the pistol pits with their second win in The House. Moving onto shotgun, stage three, Slugfest was our first shot at a shotgun stage without shot shells.   At least ten slugs were shot at 5 IPSC targets, 12 yards downrange.    The learning curve has been observed here as slug, wad and spacer holes were all observed in the paper targets.   Shooting on the move was an advantage here as Rob Kamenski used quality hits to win open while Bill Cordes won standard.

The streak was broken on Loonie Toons, a 15 round steel shotgun stage. Five pieces of steel were engaged from each of 3 boxes, while progressing downrange.   Bigger tubes pushed open times down tremendously as Howard Thompson blazed the open field with a 13 second run.   Bill Cordes was high standard.

Moving onto rifle, stage 5 was self descriptive - Run - N - Crawl.   Four sets of paper targets were engaged on this 28 round field course. Barricades, ports and a Cooper Tunnel were used to vary the long run stage. Misses were not uncommon, though targets were placed from only 3 - 90 yards. Rob Kamenski returned to his winning ways with a 34 second run.   Rob Harper moved onto the stage win platform with great hits and a 54 second run.

The final rifle stage, Almost Auto, was a 12 round speed shoot - as the name alludes to.    Six closely spaced targets were engaged from 8 yards with the rifle starting on a table.    Rob Kamenski came close to breaking the 4 second mark in open and Keith Duda nearly broke the 5 second mark in standard.

Match winners were Rob Kamenski - open and Bill Cordes - standard. Other winners were - Howard Thompson-2nd O, John Migliaccio-3rd O, Greg Wodack-4th O, Adam Benson-2nd S, Jeremie Smith-3rd S, Phil Bentley-4th S, Pete Wilber-Hrifle, David Duffett-Hpistol, Dale Gillispie-Hshotgun, Rob Harper-HSrifle, Jove Angeles-HSshotgun, Mike Milan-HSpistol and Bernie Sisson, Steve Flohr,Roy Jablonski and Frank Miller were Lewis winners.

While we were by far encouraged by the sportsmanship and dedication to the sport displayed by most shooters (a big thanks to Freddie Baker volunteer rifle RO) we were not pleased with the selfish behavior displayed by non-registered competitors.   Full Metal Jacket fans will be reminded of this sort of "..not having the common courtesy to ..." conduct.  Innocent shooters were forced to spend excessive  time on the range, shoot in the rain and even leave without finishing the match.  Our apologies and promise that this will not be tolerated again.
